1808

W-1 C-3, B-3 Breen dies: 2-B. Perhaps 3. 000 to 4. 000 examples of the date can be found in all grades. Despite the large number of survivors from the Philadelphia Mint, the variety is nearly always seen at Good to VF, with anything finer ranging from scarce to downright rare. The obverse includes an interesting feature the second 8 of the date was made by using the small 0 punch from the reverse fraction and punching it in twice to make an 8. This variety shares the reverse of the 18087 W-2. This issue is often found on dark and pitted planchets and the location of a smooth example is quite the accomplishment.
